Combined: As of January 8, only a few states are still counting write-in votes. For all practical purposes, the below results are final. None of the parties mentioned below received electoral votes, as there were no faithless electors in 2012.

Constitution Party: In the 2012 election, the Constitution Party was on the ballot in 27 states for 257 potential electoral votes and had write-in status in 14 states plus DC for 223 potential electoral votes, for a total potential of 480 out of 538. As of January 8, the presidential ticket of former U.S. representative Virgil Goode of Virginia and lawyer Jim Clymer of Pennsylvania has a total of 121,616 votes for 0.09% of the vote, putting them in fifth place in the national popular vote. In 2008, the Constitution Party ticket of Chuck Baldwin and Darrell Castle won 199,880 votes for 0.15% of the vote.

Green Party: In the 2012 election, the Green Party was on the ballot in 37 states plus DC for 444 potential electoral votes and had write-in status in nine states for 63 potential electoral votes, for a total potential of 507 out of 538. As of January 8, the presidential ticket of physician Jill Stein of Massachusetts and anti-poverty activist Cheri Honkala of Pennsylvania has a total of 468,907 votes for 0.36% of the vote, putting them in fourth place in the national popular vote. In 2008, the Green Party ticket of Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente won 161,870 votes for 0.12% of the vote.

Justice Party: In the 2012 election, the Justice Party was on the ballot in 15 states for 145 potential electoral votes and had write-in status in 21 states plus DC for 281 potential electoral votes, for a total potential of 426 out of 538. As of January 8, the presidential ticket of former Salt Lake City mayor Rocky Anderson of Utah and novelist Luis J. Rodriguez of California has a total of 42,983 votes for 0.03% of the vote, putting them in seventh place in the national popular vote. This was the Justice Party's first presidential election, so there is no prior candidacy to use for comparison.

Libertarian Party: In the 2012 election, the Libertarian Party was on the ballot in 48 states plus DC for 515 potential electoral votes and had write-in status in Michigan for 16 potential electoral votes, for a total potential of 531 out of 538. As of January 8, the presidential ticket of former governor Gary Johnson of New Mexico and former Superior Court judge James P. Gray of California has a total of 1,275,821 votes for 0.99% of the vote, putting them in third place in the national popular vote. In 2008, the Libertarian Party ticket of Bob Barr and Wayne Root won 523,433 votes for 0.40% of the vote. It was confirmed that the Johnson/Gray ticket now holds the record for the most votes for a write-in candidate in the state of Michigan, with 7,797 votes for 0.16% of the vote.

Peace and Freedom Party: In the 2012 election, the Peace and Freedom Party was on the ballot in California, Colorado, and Florida for 93 potential electoral votes and had write-in status in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Utah for 36 potential electoral votes, for a total potential of 129 out of 538. As of January 8, the presidential ticket of actress Roseanne Barr of Hawaii and anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan of California has a total of 67,326 votes for 0.05% of the vote, putting them in sixth place in the national popular vote. In 2008, the Peace and Freedom Party ticket of Ralph Nader and Matt Gonzalez won 116,385 votes for 0.09% of the vote. (The Nader/Gonzalez ticket was only on the Peace and Freedom ballot line in California and Iowa.)
