Third-party sellers experience high growth on Amazon over the holidays

In a press release on January 2, 2013, Amazon announced that third-party selling on Amazon grew more than 40 percent year-over-year during the holiday season. More than 2 million sellers worldwide experienced record breaking holiday growth, but here in the United States sellers experienced unit growth increase of more than 40 percent. Worldwide, there were hundreds and millions of items sold grossing tens and billions of dollars in revenue for businesses using Amazon to sell their products. The reason sellers experienced this type of growth could be due to the focus and attention Amazon gives to third-party sellers to help make them successful.

Management at Amazon knows that by helping third-party sellers they are also ensuring their customers have a better shopping experience. In a statement, Peter Faricy, VP for Amazon Marketplace said, “We value the breadth and depth of selection that businesses selling on Amazon offer our more than 188 million active customers worldwide. The entire Amazon Seller organization is focused on helping third-party businesses succeed and grow on Amazon. We do this by creating a dynamic marketplace platform that helps every seller deliver the best possible selection, service and prices to all Amazon customers.”

One aspect that has contributed to the success third-party sellers are having is the Fulfillment By Amazon (FBA) program that is in place. The program allows businesses to have Amazon fulfill the orders that are placed by customers. By taking advantage of this service, third-party sellers are able to give customers all of the benefits offered by Amazon including: Amazon Prime benefits, free super saver shipping, worldwide exporting, and easy returns in addition to the amazing customer service Amazon offers.

Eli Silver, President of Amazing Deals Online is one of the many third-party sellers who experienced large growth this holiday season. Silver says, “I’ve been selling on the Amazon platform for about 12 years now, and this has been by far one of the best ever holiday seasons. My business experienced more than a 70 percent increase in orders placed over last year.” When asked what factor he thinks contributed most to the success his business had selling products on Amazon this holiday season, Silver said, “We attribute the boost in orders to our confidence, and customer trust, in Amazon’s FBA program. Without FBA our current infrastructure would not have allowed us to fulfill the orders we generated on Amazon throughout the holiday season. Our typical holiday season selling period ends on December 15th due to the time needed for processing and shipping orders, but with the FBA program, we were able to extend our selling period until December 21st and still have our customers receive their packages in time for Christmas.”

Amazon is constantly adding to and improving the processes they have in place to help third-party sellers provide a better experience for their customers. The reputation and superior customer service Amazon provides has made them one of the most preferred shopping destinations on the internet. They offer a number of great services for anyone who wants to provide a better shopping experience for their customers and provide ways for businesses to grow by increasing sales.
