Just days before the Academy Awards, film fans chose their picks for 2012’s biggest cinematic hits and misses as TelevisionWithoutPity.com today announced the winners of the 3rd annual “Movies Without Pity Awards.” Fans voted in the Awards to celebrate the movies they loved, and rue the ones they wish they had never seen, in 60 unique categories, from the mainstream “Best Actor/Actress” to the unapologetically snarky “Movie You are Most Ashamed You Paid to See” and “Best Cast in the Worst Movie.”
“As we head into the home stretch of the Hollywood awards season, many of the most successful and fan-loved films of 2012 have been left out of the conversation,” said Daniel Manu, Site Director of Television Without Pity. “The 'Movies Without Pity Awards' give fans a chance to honor in a fresh way - for better or worse - the films, characters, and actors that may not be on the radar in traditional awards shows. Whether the fans want to praise a film or vote for something they wish they could un-see, these Awards are there for them."
While The Avengers earned just one Oscar nomination for Best Visual Effects, the superheroes flexed their muscle and came out as one of the most lauded movies with fans. The box office success won eight Movies Without Pity categories, including “Best Movie of the Year,” “Best Blockbuster,” “Best Ensemble Cast,” “Movie that Most Needs a Sequel,” “Movie that Should Become a TV Series,” and “Best Single Action Sequence.”
There was nothing false about fans' love for the film about a fake movie. Argo swept five categories, including “Best Drama,” “Best Director,” “Best Screenplay,” and “Most Welcome Appearance by a Former ‘Friday Nights Lights’ Star” for Kyle Chandler.
On the darker side, fans took a bite out of the final Twilight film, Breaking Dawn Pt. 2, by voting it “Movie You’re Most Ashamed You Paid to See,” “Worst Sci-Fi/Fantasy Movie,” and “Least Intimidating Villain” for the Volturi.
