Thiptara launches seductive Thai lounge with tasty new set menus

The Peninsula Bangkok’s Thiptara restaurant has expanded its array of dining and relaxation choices with the addition of a classical Thai-style lounge where guests can gather before or after dinner for cocktails and appetizers, or simply come together to socialize. Set in the upper sala, the slightly elevated lounge allows guests to feel as if they have stepped back in time to a bygone era of intimate elegance. Traditional Thai cushions, bolsters and low tables allow for comfortable seating while enjoying a selection of innovative cocktails and snacks. Wicker lanterns hang from the open air high-vaulted roof of the sala while antique Thai furnishings, artwork and artefacts create a warm, authentic, relaxing atmosphere. The view extends to the river, as well as to the resort’s dramatic swimming pool and the Naturally Peninsula Garden where the fresh Thai herbs that distinguish Thiptara’s refined home-style cuisine are grown. Guests can also enjoy a vintage style menu in the lounge, which includes:

  • Shrimp w/ Green Mango Salad
  • Beef Marinated in Yellow Curry & Hot Basil
  • Charcoal Grilled Chicken Satay Marinated in Red Curry

The Chef de Cuisine, Chamnan Thepchana, has also created three new set menus that will take diners on a culinary tour of Thailand. One menu draws its appetizer from Chiang Mai, its soup from Phuket, its main courses from Surattani and its dessert from Petchburi. Another set visits Nakhon Pathom, Khon Kaen, Rayong and Ayudhya while the third menu tours Ubon Ratchathani, Surin, Yasothon and Nong Khai. Featured dishes range from Steamed Pork Sausage w/ Jelly Noodles and Grilled Salt-Crusted Sea Bass to Beef Sirloin w/ Spicy Tamarind Sauce and Egg Custard w/ Mung Beans.

Thiptara, which aptly translates to ‘River from Heaven’, gives you the feeling of being invited into a well-to-do traditional Thai home of yesteryear. Guests can choose to dine on the riverside terrace for a panoramic view of the water activities and the historic architecture, or in the antique salas in a garden setting, shaded by a giant banyan tree. The Lounge is open daily from 17:00 to 22:30 hours and the restaurant is open from 18:00 to 22:30 hours.
