Looking through my phone today, I came across a picture I took on Monday; it was my LOTD (lip of the day) which was Lime Crime’s “Countessa Fluorescent” (see main article photo for my real lip swatch).
Seeing the picture got me thinking about Lime Crime and all the controversy behind the brand (if you’re not familiar, Google them and you will find pages upon pages of info). The first time I heard about the drama I found it very interesting to read about, but my opinion on the brand didn't really change. Before you show up at my house with a burning torch, let me explain why.
I buy Lime Crime for their products, not their ethics. What they choose to practice in their business affects them because obviously a tremendous amount of people have boycotted this brand entirely. I do realize it did, at a point, indirectly affect the wholesalers. However, with the exploitation of said business practices, we can all be assured that awareness helped get these wholesalers the business they deserve and may have lost.
I’m not saying what allegedly happened is fair (remember: at the end of the day these accusations began as rumors), but I simply feel that people may put too much emphasis on things that don’t directly involve them. If you feel that Lime Crime has truly offended you, then that’s okay and that’s your prerogative. I’m simply here today to raise a question in your mind: what are you buying your makeup for: the product, or the business?
Have you ever refused to purchase from a brand? Which ones and why? I’d love to hear your thoughts below. Leave a comment, subscribe, and don’t forget to follow me on Twitter and Youtube.
