In your mind’s eye, melt away that five foot pile of white snow surrounding your mailbox.
Instead, visualize your yard with green grass and flowering plants in a rainbow of colors. Imagine salmon- colored geraniums, burgundy petunias, English ivy, ornamental oregano, and butternut squash.
Now, transform that dream into reality by placing a pre-order (available online) with the Bloomingdale Garden Club. February 28 is the pre-order deadline. Hint: gift certificates are perfect Valentine’s Day, Easter, or Mother’s Day gifts.
The Bloomingdale Garden Club Annual Flower and Plant Sale will occur May 2-3, 2014 at the Bloomingdale Park District Maintenance Building, 259 Springfield Drive. It’s the building just north of Springfield Park.
Plant sale attendees always find great deals on these professionally-grown flowers and plants. “Our prices are lower than most independent nurseries and big box stores,” stated plant sale co-chair, Linda Kunesh. “In fact, we’ve kept our prices the same for the past four years.”
Proceeds from the plant sale benefit local charities. “In 2013, the Bloomingdale Garden Club donated more than $6,000,” said plant co-chair Henrietta Sullivan. That included donations to the Bloomingdale Historical Museum as well as local group homes.
New members are welcome to join the club. Anyone with a green thumb – or those wishing to develop one – are invited to attend meetings on the third Tuesday of the month at the Bloomingdale Police Department, 201 S. Bloomingdale Road. Bloomingdale residency isn’t required.
