Freda Kelly, whose story as Beatles Fan Club secretary is told in the newly released Magnolia Films documentary “Good Ol' Freda,” says in a new interview to premiere Sept. 7 on Fab4Radio.com she didn't think anyone would want to hear her story.
“I didn't think anybody would,” Kelly says. “I'm not as big as other people in the past.”
And, she says she could have never predicted that the Beatles would become the biggest band of all time.
“I don't think anybody did. I don't think I was alone on that one, you know. Even the people I palled around with in Liverpool at the time that were all Beatle fans ... none of us could visualize (it).”
Kelly is one of two very special guests on the latest “Things We Said Today” weekly Beatles news radio show that will air this weekend on Fab4Radio.com, the station announced Sept. 7. Appearing with Kelly is the film's associate director Kathy McCabe. In the show, Kelly and McCabe talk about what led to the film, the filming itself and the national reaction to it.
The show, hosted by Ken Michaels, also host of the radio show “Every Little Thing,” and yours truly, will air at noon ET (11 a.m. CST and 9 a.m. PT) Saturday and Sunday following “Dennis Mitchell's Breakfast With the Beatles” and “Happy Nat's Browcast. It will also air at midnight ET Sunday (11 p.m. CST and 9 p.m. PST) following “Every Little Thing." It'll go online Sunday night at the show's site.
The film, in its first day on iTunes, was the second most popular documentary on the site.
UPDATE: The show is now available online.
