With Thanksgiving and Christmas comes vacation form school. Here are some ideas of crafts to do with your children using just paper! If you are on a budget and need some new decorations for around the house, or gifts to give, these crafts will serve as those as well.
Snowflakes:
Using white or colored computer paper, make it into a square and fold one piece at a time 4-6 times into a small square. Take safety scissors and cut notches into the outside of the squares. When you open them up you will have pretty snowflakes. Hang them up around the house. Or make little ones by using smaller paper and hang them from the Christmas tree.
Paper garland:
Cut a piece of paper, white or colored into 2 inch strips. With a stapler, staple one strip into a circle. Then take other strips and staple into a circle around the previous circle. You can use red and green construction paper or use white paper and hang your snowflakes to the chain and hang over a doorway inside the house.
Turkeys:
Trace your child’s hand on pieces of yellow, brown, orange and red pieces of construction paper.
Trace their feet on dark brown construction paper.
Cut out the hands and feet. Use the feet as the body of the turkey and the hands as the feathers. Glue together. Draw eyes and a beak onto the turkey. Display on the refrigerator or frame turkey and display on the wall.
These make great gifts for Grandparents! Have your children sign and date the body of the turkey and put it into a frame. It is a gift that will be cherished forever!
Christmas trees:
Cut a light piece of paper in half. Glue it onto a red or green piece of full sized paper. On light piece draw a Christmas tree. With crayons or markers allow your children to color and decorate the tree. If you are feeling extra crafty let them use stickers and/or glue cotton balls and beads onto the tree to decorate it.
Ornaments:
Using colored construction paper, cut out circles about 2-3 inches around. Punch a hole in the circle and attach a piece of yarn or ribbon to hang it from the tree. Decorate each ball ornament with markers, stickers, ribbons, beads and / or sparkles. Allow to dry and hang from the tree.
