Things to keep private from your Internet dates!

Your parents should have taught you to keep certain information private, but either they forgot to tell you or you forgot to listen to the sage advice. How much money you have and how much you make should remain private. How much you spend on various large ticket items should also be private.

As soon as you tell the other person how much money you have it could open the door for a predator to take advantage of you, or at the least, your mate could expect you to pay for things that should not necessarily be expected.

If your Internet date thinks you have great wealth, he/she could expect to be taken care of and that you will pay the bill for many things they would have ordinarily paid for had you not had the money.

Sometimes it would make sense for you to take care of the lesser endowed, however it should never be expected.

Rules of privacy can apply to all of your relationships. Friends and family can become jealous and expect things that they would never have expected if they didn’t know of your wealth. Besides expectations and jealousy, resentment can reign within your circle of people as well. All of these reasons should help you to understand why your personal business should remain...well... personal.

I had a phone conversation with a perspective Internet date and in the course of conversation she mentioned waterfront property that she inherited from her parents. I never got to meet her nor did I inquire any details about the property or her wealth, but I was floored that she never met me, didn’t know me from Adam (the con artist - not to be confused with the Bibical fool who let a woman coax him to eat an apple) and yet she freely volunteered information that could get her involved in an unscrupulous relationship. How naïve?

This was not a unique incident. Others I have met on Internet dates also volunteered way too much information about their finances, income and property ownership. Are they trying to encourage people to date them for their money? If that’s your goal, go for it, but beware the consequences!

You may also not want to volunteer details about your sexuality. Too many people talk about promiscuous matters because we live in a very promiscuous world, however, this may lead people to expect more than you intended to give. It could also find you dating players who are looking for a score and have no intention of having any kind of relationship. Teller beware!
