Located in the well-loved Spanish vacation destination, the Canary Islands, Tenerife enjoys fine temperatures and sunshine almost every day of the year. With beaches, historical landmarks and tourist attractions galore, it’s simple to see why it’s a favorite holiday destination for everyone from young children to retirees.
Parque Nacional del Teide
The main draw to this beautiful park, the most popular tourist attraction in the Canary Islands, is the extinct volcano that lies within. Visitors can hike to the crater at the top of the volcano or take a cable car. While there they can enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding islands.
A great attraction for families and animal lovers, Loro Parque features more than 300 species of parrots, an aquarium, exotic animals like gorillas and jaguars, an orchid house, dolphin show and more. As you walk along paths winding through tropical trees you just might think you’ve been transported to the jungle.
Museo de Bellas Artes
Art lovers can spend the afternoon strolling through the galleries of Tenerife’s fine arts museum, where they can view works by respected old masters as well as those of contemporary artists.
This water park is a favorite with families, but there are plenty of rides and activities for adults. Fresh water is used in the pools and lounge chairs are available for relaxing. The thrilling Tower of Power and the wave pool are two favorites.
Travelers who enjoy visiting beautiful churches should head to two of Tenerife’s most important ones, both located in the capital city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife: the Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion boasting fine works of Baroque era art, and the Iglesia de San Francisco.
Plaza de Espana, Santa Cruz de Tenerife
A seasoned traveler once said if you want to find the English speaking people in any destination, head to the local Irish bar. Not sure if that’s true across the board, but in Tenerife the Claddagh Irish Bar is a popular hot-spot with the English speaking tourists, who can enjoy drinks and live Irish music there. The friendly staff and cheap drinks make the Beehive another favorite Tenerife bar for travelers.
Tenerife’s beaches are legendary and visitors will find there are many to choose from. Two favorites are Playa de la Teresitas and Playa Jardim. The most popular beach on Tenerife, Playa de la Teresitas, is a man-made beach featuring bars, restaurants and loads of shady palm trees. Head to the farthest section of the man-made beach Playa Jardim for the best swimming and a waterfall.
