With gorgeous weather this weekend, there are many fun free things to do outdoors around the South Shore. Take advantage of the weather and head to the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton. A short but adventurous hike to the top will bring you to a stone tower (Eliot Tower) and incredible views of Boston and the surrounding area. Eliot Tower was a Civilian Conservation Corp project completed in 1937.
Take the hike to the summit that begins next to the Trailside Museum
(1904 Canton Ave, Milton, MA 02186). The trail is a bit strenuous with a lot of uphill walking. This is definitely a hike! Children will enjoy this but it is certainly not somewhere that a stroller can go. What is pleasant about this hike for families is that there are a lot of large rocks to climb (so you feel like a real mountaineer!), plenty of spots to stop for a rest and a snack and the trail is always very active so there are always people around (you won’t feel isolated). Pack water bottles for all hikers as well as a snack or maybe even a picnic lunch to enjoy at the top.
Directions:
Take Rt I-93 to exit 2B (Milton, Rt 138 North). Follow the exit ramp to the first set of traffic lights. Go straight through the lights and the parking lot is 0.5 miles ahead on the right. The Trailside museum is at the end of the parking lot and the entrance to the trail is next to the museum.
