Back again with this week's "Things to Do" article for Missoula. Hard to believe that Halloween is just around the corner. It's been a busy week working and rehearsing for the Missoula Community Theatre's upcoming production of Spamalot, which opens on November 8.

Here are a few suggestions of things to do this weekend and next week. Our very own University of Montana Grizzlies will play host to East Washington at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday for Military Appreciation Day. In addition, don't miss all the great NFL action this weekend. I'll be at Hooters on Sunday to catch my Dolphins take on the Bills at 11 a.m. There's also plenty of NBA and MLB action as they move their way through the Divisional Playoffs to find out who will square off in the World Series.
Reading is always a great escape, and we have four great local bookstores: Fact & Fiction, located at 200 N. Higgins and in the University Center; The Book Exchange, located at 2335 Brooks Street; Shakespere & Co. Booksellers, located at 1035 S. Third Street W and Bird's Nest Books, located at 217 N. Higgins. Take some time and enjoy these jewels of Missoula, where you can catch up on some great reads and do some shopping.

For theater lovers, check out Leah Joki's Prison Boxing at the Downtown Dance Collective on Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 p.m. and Distracted at the Marsquer Theatre at 7:30 .m. Friday, Saturday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Tickets available at the UMArts Box Office. Finally, don't miss Women in Black at the ZACC at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, preceded by a Haunted House at 7 p.m.

For something different, stop by Wheat Montana at Third & Reserve every Tuesday night from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for some great bluegrass music with the Black Mountain Boys. The food is divine and the music sublime - it's a can't miss combination.
Here's where you can catch more live music this week: On Friday night, check out Hank 3 (grandson of Hank Williams) at the Wilma at 7:30 p.m. and Seattle chanteuse Camille Bloom at the Missoula Winery at 7 p.m. In addition, John Adam Smith plays Sean Kelly's Halloween party at 9 p.m., The Ryan Larsen Band plays Sunrise Saloon from 9:30 p.m. to close, and the Lumberjacks, Ted Ness and the Rusty Nails and Gil and the Spills are at Monk's Bar at 10 p.m. On Saturday, it's Dave Baty at the Draught Works Brewery from 6 to 8 p.m., Soul Sister and the Medicine at the Union Club at 9 p.m. and The Ryan Larsen Band at the Sunrise Saloon from 9:30 p.m. to Close. On Monday, check out Travis Yost and Ron Dunbar aka Love is a Dog at the Red Bird Wine Bar from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Teach Me Equals at the Palace at 9 p.m.. Tuesday brings us Greensky Bluegrass and Fruition at the Top Hat at 9 p.m., The Montana Musicians and Artists Coalition showcase at Stage 112 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Catamount at teh Badlander at 9 p.m. On Wednesday it's Jon Wayne and the Pain at the Top Hat at 9 p.m.. Last but not least on Halloween, check out Miller Creek at the Top Hat at 9 p.m., preceded by Chris Timmons at at 7 p.m.
For something completely different, check out John Sporman and Travis Yost, aka Next Door Prison Hotel, as they present a live score for the screening of the 1922 classic silent film, Nosferatu at the Roxy at 8 p.m. on Halloween night.
