Back again with this week's "Things to Do" article for Missoula. It's been a busy week working and rehearsing for the Missoula Community Theatre's upcoming production of Spamalot, which opens on November 8. Here are a few suggestions of things to do this weekend and next week.
It's time for the annual Cowboy Ball, a fundraiser for the University of Montana Rodeo Team. Now in its 22nd year, the event is held at the Lolo Peak Arena. Those in attendance will be treated to great food, incredible silent and live auction items, a live country/western band and a chance to meet the Rodeo Team.
For all you sports lovers, the American and National League Divisional play-offs are underway, as well as plenty of college football games on Saturday, and NFL games on Sunday. Our own Grizzlies will be playing at UC Davis this week. Head over to your favorite watering hole to catch all the action. My preference is Hooters.
Reading is always a great escape, and we have four great local bookstores: Fact & Fiction, located at 200 N. Higgins and in the University Center; The Book Exchange, located at 2335 Brooks Street; Shakespere & Co. Booksellers, located at 1035 S. Third Street W and Bird's Nest Books, located at 217 N. Higgins. Take some time and enjoy these jewels of Missoula, where you can catch up on some great reads and do some shopping. Don't forget, this weekend marks the annual Festival of the Book, with activities all over town through Saturday, including a luncheon with author James Lee Burke at noon on Saturday at the Top Hat Lounge.

There are also great venues in town to catch the latest indie music. Don't miss these great shows this week: For something different, stop by Wheat Montana at Third & Reserve every Tuesday night from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for some great bluegrass music with the Black Mountain Boys. The food is divine and the music sublime - it's a can't miss combination.
Here's where you can catch more live music this week: On Friday night, check out Casey Neill at Missoula Winery; Dave Manning at Sean Kelly's; Corporate Defiance at The Dark Horse; and Andrea Harsell and Leia Sky at Brooks and Browns/Holiday Inn. On Saturday, check out Rye Bones and Polecat at the Top Hat Lounge. Then on Sunday, the Top Hat Lounge hosts Blitzen Trapper and The Hasslers. Finally, on Thursday, check out Maxwell Hughes and Dan Debuque at Stage 112.
Don't forget iTunes, ReverbNation and YouTube - be adventurous and be the first to discover new talent - then share it with us all.
For all your fresh food lovers, check out the Farmers Market in Hamilton from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday (Third and Bedford Streets) and at the Target Range School parking lot on Sunday at 10 a.m.
