Back again with this week's "Things to Do" article for Missoula. Hard to believe that Halloween is just around the corner. It's been a busy week working and rehearsing for the Missoula Community Theatre's upcoming production of Spamalot, which opens on November 8.
Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night as Daylight Savings Time comes to an end for 2013.
Here are a few suggestions of things to do this weekend and next week. Our very own University of Montana Grizzlies travel to Sacramento State at 2 p.m. In addition, don't miss all the great NFL action this weekend. Catch all the college, NFL and NBA action at my favorite sports bar, Hooters.
Reading is always a great escape, and we have four great local bookstores: Fact & Fiction, located at 200 N. Higgins and in the University Center; The Book Exchange, located at 2335 Brooks Street; Shakespere & Co. Booksellers, located at 1035 S. Third Street W and Bird's Nest Books, located at 217 N. Higgins. Take some time and enjoy these jewels of Missoula, where you can catch up on some great reads and do some shopping. On Friday, don't miss local author Elliott Oppenheim as he reads and signs his latest work at Valley Drug from 5-7 p.m. In addition, seasoned reporter Gwen Florio reads her mystery Montana at Fact and Fiction at 5:30 p.m. Then on Tuesday, poet Gary Whited presents his poetry collection, Having Listened at Shakespeare and Co. at 7 p.m. Finally on Thursday, Ken White reads from his new poetry collection Eidolon at Shakespeare and Co. at 7 p.m.
It's never a bad time to catch a movie, and this weekend is no exception. For something different, stop by Wheat Montana at Third & Reserve every Tuesday night from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for some great bluegrass music with the Black Mountain Boys. The food is divine and the music sublime - it's a can't miss combination.

Sunday brings The Browning to the Palace, with This or the Apocalypse, starting at 8 p.m. and Gaelic Storm invades the Wilma at 7 p.m. On Monday, check out Cash for Junkers at the Red Bird Wine Bar from 7 to 10 p.m. Celebrate Election Night with music by Iron & Wine at the Wilma at 8 p.m.,the Montana Musicians and Artists Coalition brings another showcase to the Elks from 8 to 11 p.m. and Travis Ward plays the Badlander at 9 p.m. Wednesday brings John Floridis to the Top Hat at 6 p.m., followed by Mudslide Charley at 10 p.m. Last but not least, on Thursday, Barbara Jean plas the Top Hat dinner show at 6 p.m., John Smith plays Draught Works Brewery from 6 to 8 p.m., and Height and Al Lover play the Palace at 9 p.m.
