Things to do in Los Feliz - Super Bowl Weekend

Somehow we survived four chaotic days, five articles and numerous long hours at this year's Winter NAMM at the Anaheim Convention Center.  It was a fabulous experience, and gave us the opportunity to learn about new products, new music and artists, and a bit of history as well.

Now that that's over, it's back to the wonderful local communities of Los Feliz and Griffith Park and all the fun things to do around here.  Check out these ideas when planning your weekend:

Lots of great movies to check out at our local theaters here in Los Feliz.  At the Vintage Cinemas Los Feliz 3, you can catch "Shame," "Albert Nobbs" or "The Grey," screening at 1:30 p.m., 4:15 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9:40 p.m.  On Friday, "Albert Nobbs" leaves and "The Woman in Black" begins, screening at the same times.  Over at the Vintage Cinemas Vista Theater, catch multiple Golden Globe winner "The Artist," screening at 1:30 p.m., 4:15 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9:40 p.m.  No midnight screening this week.

Skylight Books has a very busy week with author readings and signings.  Tonight at 7:30 p.m., Ben Marcus will read and sign his novel "The Flame Alphabet."  Tomorrow at 7:30 p.m., Dave Isay will discuss and isgn "All There is:  Love Stories from Storycorps."  On Saturday at 5 p.m., Jeanne Cordova will hold a conversation with Dr. Chris Freeman to celebrate Cordova's book "When We Were Outlaws."  On Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., Daniel Pyne will read and sign his novel "A Hole in the Ground Owned by a Liar."  Finally, on Wednesday, Trinie Dalton, Joshua Mohr and Stephen Beachy will read and sign their respective books, "Baby Geisha," "Damascus" and "Boneyard."  For more details, check out their website - www.skylightbooks.com.

For you sports fans out there, it's SUPER BOWL SUNDAY this weekend.  Where are you going to watch the big game?  Unless I get some visitors, I'll probably head down to Hooters in Burbank, where they're GIVING AWAY wings and a TV.  How can you lose?   Besides that, there's college basketball, the NBA, WNBA and NHL.  Invite some friends and check out one of our local sports bars.

The Hotel Cafe is one of the premier places to enjoy both up and coming indie artists as well as the elite.  It is back in full swing, with a great schedule of shows.  I recommend attending the following shows:  Javier Dunn at 8 p.m., Rocco DeLucca at 10 p.m. and David and Devine at 11 p.m. on Friday; Storm Large at 7 p.m., Alice Smith at 9:30 p.m., Tyler Hilton at 10:30 p.m. and Chris Pierce at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday; Sonos at 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Jake Newton & Garrison Starr at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday.  Don't forget the special $6 rate for valet parking on Friday and Saturday and $5 the rest of the time.  Details can be found at www.hotelcafe.com.

Also check out who's performing at The Mint and Room 5 for more great indie artists.   I highly recommend catching Outliar, winner of the Burbank International Film Festival Sonic Sound Off competition on Friday night at 8 p.m. at Room 5.

Don't forget iTunes, ReverbNation and YouTube - be adventurous and be the first to discover new talent - then share it with us all.
