October is a very important month for a lot of women. Being that it is Breast Cancer Awareness month, it is a time to remember loved ones who have either survived or lost the battle to the disease. I never really knew anyone who had the disease, but just this year I started work for a physician who specializes in breast cancer research and have gained a new found respect for those who have gone through it. This month has also given me the opportunity to get involved with a lot of breast cancer events. So far, I have attended everything from breast cancer awareness walks to formal dinner events. So I thought why not share with you guys some different breast cancer awareness events and the outfit ideas that accompany them.
First, coming up on October 20th is the “Susan G. Komen North Florida Race for the Cure”. This will give those who want to do wither a walk or run the opportunity to get out and support a cause while getting their exercise on. Also, while they’re not in October there are two other breast cancer events, one on November 11, 2012 is a “bike 26.2” event and on February 17, 2013 is the “26.2 with Donna marathon” event. All of these sound really fun and will help raise awareness for this important cause.
Second, there are many concerts and events going on around Jacksonville in October. One, called “Victory in Pink” in the St. John’s Town Center, will take place on October 20th as well and will include a fashion show and live entertainment, among other things. This would be a great casual event to take a group of friends and hang out.
And lastly, formal events are also happening to help increase knowledge about breast cancer. Just last week I attended an event in downtown Jacksonville called “A Night on the Pink Carpet” which was a fashion show for breast cancer survivors. Another fashion show type event coming up on October 27th is the “Lingerie Fashion Show” which is also an event for breast cancer survivors.
These are just a few of the events happening around town. Now that I am more aware of this disease I want to do all I can to help those who have dealt with it and I know that by attending these kinds of events I am doing just that.
