Thanksgiving marks the unofficial start of the Christmas season. By the time the turkey hits the table, stories are decorated for the holidays, sales have started, and savvy shoppers have made their lists. Families often decorate their homes for the holidays before Thanksgiving, spreading joy with their decorations on both Thanksgiving and throughout the month of December.
The Perry family of Aldan, PA is one of those families that really love to share the holidays spirit. Homeowner Mike Perry set up the family’s Christmas lights and decorations around the house a few days before Thanksgiving. The day before Thanksgiving, thieves struck, and stole most of the decorations. The family didn’t have any type of home security alarm, security lighting, or other crime deterrent in place. They were devastated, but Perry went out and bought some new decorations to replace them. He wasn’t about to allow the bad guys to ruin the holiday spirit for his children.
Unfortunately, sometimes the bad guys are truly bad. According to Perry, he went out Thanksgiving night to do some Black Friday shopping, and returned home at 6am with arms full of gifts. At 6:15, just a few moments after he arrived home, he heard some noise and looked outside, just in time to see people stealing his decorations and lights a second time, shoving them into a car. He tried to chase after them, but they got away.
It is heartbreaking to see the same family robbed twice. The decorations and lights aren’t terribly expensive, but they were a nice collection of festive items the family collected over the years. The worst part is that Perry’s children are sad that their favorite decorations are gone. After the second incident, the homeowners decided to install wireless security video cameras in order to deter and possibly catch the thieves.
This unfortunate story highlights the importance of keeping your home safe and installing a home security alarm system BEFORE burglars and thieves strike. If your home is an easy target, thieves will come back, simply because they can. Only you can make sure your home does not have easy access, and keep yourself and your property secure. Wireless security systems are a good way to provide this security, and can be very effective when combined with outdoor motion-sensor lighting, burglar-deterring landscaping, and locked windows and doors.
If the Perry family had installed motion sensor lighting, it may have drawn attention to the thieves and made them choose a different home to steal decorations from. This holiday season, keep your family safe and secure. Protect your family from theft, and nothing will dampen your holiday spirit.
