In case you needed reminding, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One still don’t match the visual quality of high-end PCs, despite having similar architecture. Though the reboot of the stealth action title, Thief, will take full advantage of every platform, past and new generation, the PC version will possess the best graphical dividends, according the game’s art director.
Thief on PC “will support all the graphical features of the next-gen consoles with numerous improvements, including even better anti-aliasing, higher resolution shadows and support for multi-monitor,” technical art director, Jean-Normand Bucci told DSOgaming in an interview today.
“Thief on PC will also be amongst the first batch of games to support AMD’s new Mantle API for high performance graphics,” Bucci said.
Jean-Normand also confirmed field of view (FOV) slider and mouse sensitivity options, though players will not be able to adjust mouse acceleration or smoothing for camera controls. Eidos-Montreal prefers that “you have direct control of Garret’s POV.”
This information doesn't mean that the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Thief will be inferior. All three platforms will support DirectX 11, the most up to date graphic processing software.
While PC still holds the throne over gaming visuals, consoles have made notable strides to blur the disparity between the two. And there’ll be plenty of examples to prove this in the coming years.
