Square Enix released a new Thief trailer as the industry gears up for Gamescom next week. It also nailed down a release date on when the classic stealth series reboot will hit the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
Thief will land in North America on Feb. 25, 2014 for all platforms followed by a Feb. 28 released in PAL territories.
The Gamescom trailer is dubbed "Uprising" and does not feature any gameplay footage but does set up the storyline for Garrett and the city he stalks. The master thief returns to his hometown to find it on the brink of revolution as Baron Northcrest presses his thumb down on the The City's poor citizens. A leader named "Orion" steps up from the masses to ferment an uprising. Caught between the sides, Garrett finds a situation that he can possibly exploit with his skills.
Thief has been in development at Eidos Montreal since at least 2009 when it was first announced by Square Enix as Thief 4. It went through several changes in design before the development team settled on a reboot of the series set in a Victorian steampunk city.
