Pope Francis is certainly charming. He is also brutally honest, and spontaneous, and, quite often, leaves himself open to gross misinterpretation due to his bold, prophetic statements, which are taken out of context in order to serve anti-Catholic ideology. Last evening, CNN news host, Piers Morgan, along with two progressive 'clergy' members, teamed up to bang their gongs, and pop their champagne corks, over the earth-shaking announcements made by Pope Francis pronouncing homosexuality and abortion as acceptable Catholic realities.
But there was only one problem. The Pope never made such pronouncements!
Thankfully, St. Paul has already warned us about the likes of Piers and his progressive minions: "Whoever teaches something different and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the religious teaching is conceited, understanding nothing, and has a morbid disposition for arguments and verbal disputes." 1 Timothy 6:2-12
Progressives like Piers Morgan, and the sad-sack clergy who are ordained to obedience, but preach and practice defiance, count on a society of uninformed Catholics and Christians, those who read headlines, and hear soundbites, but never investigate what the Pope really said. And what the Pope really said, in a nutshell, was that we will never win the abortion and gay 'marriage' debate with angry rhetoric and an unforgiving heart. Pope Francis, as the Vicar of Christ, urged Catholics and Christians to witness to the Loving Mercy of God, more powerful than rhetoric, to convert the human person from the sins of abortion, homosexuality, and the fallen conditions that afflict us all. For the Pope even described himself as a 'sinner.'
But what he did not do, absolutely, and without doubt, was change Church Teaching concerning the Right to Life and God's original design for human sexuality in the marital bond between a man and a woman.
"Why should I fear in evil days when my wicked ensnarers ring me round? They trust in their wealth; the abundance of their riches is their boast." Psalm 49:6-10, 17-20
When will Catholics learn that Jesus meant 'enemy' when he told us to love our enemy, and pray for them? 'Kumbaya' Catholicism, the naive view that Catholics live in an endearing world, is suicidal. We truly have enemies! Yes, we are to love them by compassionately sharing God's Truth with them--and if they repent, we are to welcome them into the Prodigal Father's house with open arms (which is the essence of the Pope's message!). But we must always hold true to the Truth which Jesus brought us, and the Apostles (Bishops) expound and protect, never watering it down to fit in with a passing generation. And, on a sadder note, those Catholics, like the priest on Piers Morgan's show, those who preach a 'new' gospel, they need to repent and convert, so that they aren't a cancer cell within Christ's Body, killing innocent cells around them.
"Jesus journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God. Accompanying him were the Twelve and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities..." Luke 8:1-3
In the end, we mustn't panic. For Jesus was the victim of cherry-picking Pharisees, taking our Lord out of context and misinterpreting His actions, all to promote the Pharisaical ideology. Therefore, the more things change, the more they stay the same. That is, except for the Catholic heart. This heart, on fire with Christ's unchanging Truth, constantly changes for the better in a more loving and compassionate life in tune with the Holy Spirit which animates it.
And from that heart the Pope spoke the unchanging Truth in ever new Love. For Christ's Catholicism would never manifest in any other way.
