The recent closing of one of Florida's nuclear plants while considering constructing a brand new one is really against the realm of reasoning. After all this is the sunshine state. The state where the number one energy source has to be solar. It doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to figure out Solar combined with Wind Turbines placed strategically all around both coasts of Florida would provide enough energy to meet today's and tomorrows growing population.
Today every home should have enough solar panels and solar cells along with a compact wind turbine already installed just like any other appliance in order to defray ever increasing energy costs that are imposed upon each and every homeowner all across this state. But no, our most wondrous "Wizards" in our state house only continue with their Neanderthal thinking that nuclear, coal, and oil are enough. They continue to thwart any attempt by millions who are desperately seeking any relief from ever increasing energy costs by making solar and wind energy most impossible to get. To break away from Teco, Progress or any other major Utility company is so costly it leaves the majority of Floridians stuck having to incur more rising costs just when most are still in financial difficulties. With rising costs from food, gas, insurance, and now having major energy costs continue to climb doesn't make for any kind of economic growth. Just the opposite is already occurring. It really is a form of high stakes extortion when we think about it. When we have to provide heat or air-conditioning to escape the high heat and humidity it really has become a financial hardship. All of which translates into economic retardation instead of economic growth.
The state of Florida already has one of the largest Solar farms in the country and yet our elected officials still can't break away from the antiquated rational of using energy sources of the first and second Industrial Revolution. Recent developments in technology has afforded all of us the availability that ensures there will be safe, abundant, renewable green energy sources for all. But, with current legislation already on the books the opportunity for most to have the availability of all that technology has to offer is almost impossible to have access to.
With so much money already spent to salvage a nuclear power plant that was beyond repair anyway and now throw millions more into another nuclear facility boarders on the inept. When lower cost, more efficient, renewable alternative energy is at our beckon call has to be the choice made. Too much waste of hard earned tax dollars continues to literally go up in smoke. But, there again, the rational is one that continues to bewilder the general public who are anxiously waiting for any kind of relief. It appears that our most benevolent economic wizards of state keep retaining those special interest groups that fund their campaigns instead of ushering in new policies that would actually ease the financial hardship millions are stuck in with ever increasing energy costs.
Already in Japan and in Europe there are countries that are light years ahead of the United States in the deployment of alternative green energy. They have installed in practically every new home solar cells that are embedded into roofing shingles and solar panels facing east and west to harness the suns energy morning till night along with a Wind Turbine on every block to help supply and augment their solar energy. It has worked in providing lower cost, more efficient safe green energy. Just think of Los Angeles now with the air quality so toxic one has to stay indoors or wear masks just to breath could be eliminated all together just by the implementation Solar and Wind Technology. Here in Florida the net result would be an economic boom and an environmental revival. They really are nuts if our legislature doesn't start to embark on implementing solar and wind energy so that every home is provided with lower cost, more efficient and reliable energy solutions.
