They mostly come out at night....

The author of this article is very excited about an upcoming FPS (First Person Shooter). Why should the readers care about this? Because the author is almost never excited about FPS titles. They're fun, at first. But their replay factor tends to wane after realizing that you survive an average of 10 seconds in any Deathmatch multi-player scenarios.

20th Century Fox, developers Gearbox Software and publisher Sega are nearing the release date of their multi-platform title, Aliens: Colonial Marines, a FPS venture into the universe of the Alien film franchise. This is especially exciting, as it has actually been confirmed to be canon with the original franchise, allowing us to effectively live the events of what could have been Alien 4 since the events of the game take place almost immediately after the events of Alien 3.

The gameplay environments include locations from the films such as the Sulaco and the surface of LV-426 Acheron, most notably Hadley's Hope. These were prominent locations used in Aliens, which fans are already anticipating to basically be a guided tour of the actual set. The level of detail and accuracy will undoubtedly make those of us who fall into the superfan category geek out. Of course, gameplay videos have already hit the internet. One of which can be seen here at http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=9QujSsbdYjo

Also given a high attention to detail was the arsenal at the disposal of the Colonial Marines. Everything, from color palette and design, to burst patterns of the guns' firing, right down to the sound of your pulse rifle is as true to the original as one could hope.

Xenomorphs, the alien antagonist species in the franchise, will reprise their role from the films as the main Big Bad that the player will be pit against. But facehuggers, chest bursters and fully grown variants of the species won't be your only threat, as you must also face those in the employ of the nefarious Company from the films.

The engine the game will run on is set to be the Unreal 3 engine, which has helped deliver us gaming experiences such as the Gears of War and Borderlands franchises and the very popular Batman: Arkham series, to name a handful.

Multiplayer should prove to be a fully entertaining and engaging experiece that seems to be reminiscent of Left 4 Dead wherein players will take the role of either Colonial Marines/Human forces, or those of the Xenomorphs, which all have their own fun little attributes to exploit.

Those of us lucky enough to have caught the pre-order bug will be treated to a scale figure of a manned Power Loader complete with display case literally crawling with Xenos, as well as exclusive in-game content and customization perks. More details on this can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g25QVGT5YNo

This is definitely one game to be very excited about. Whether you're a fan of the films, or just a fan of the FPS genre with a healthy dose of suspense, this game should prove to satisfy a lot of different itches among the gamer circuit. Expect to see a follow up review of the title a little bit after the game's release on February 12th, 2013. You can bet the writer of this particular article will be hitting up Danbury's Berkshire Shopping Center as soon as he possibly can.

Until then, we'll just have to be patient. ...Mostly.
