Over the years Rabbi Peretz Dinovitz and has been one of the few orthodox rabbis in Baltimore who has consistently done his best to help Jewish survivors of sex crimes within his community. Many survivors have also shared that Ohel Yakov has been a safe haven for them to pray and feel a sense of community.
Unfortunately, earlier today a huge mistake was made by an organization called Road to Recovery along with attorney Mitchell Garabedian; when they staged a media event in front of Ohel Yakov Congregation in Baltimore.
The goal of this media event was to shine a light on how several orthodox rabbis within the eruv of Baltimore have been neglecting to protect unsuspecting children from convicted sex offender, Rabbi Stanley Levitt, along with other known sexual predators within the community. Instead of this event being held in front of Ohel Yakov, the event should have been staged in front of the other orthodox synagogue on Glenn Ave -- Congregation Shearith Israel (also known as the Glenn Ave. Shul), which is under the direction of Rabbi Yaakov Hopfer.
Congregation Shearith Israel is the synagogue in which Rabbi Stanley Levitt attends along with many other alleged and convicted sex offenders.
Many survivors and their supporters believe that both Bob Hoaston, who runs Road to Recovery and attorney Mitchell Garabedian need to make a public apology to both Rabbi Dinovitz and his wife, along with aOhel Yakov Congregation for their error.
