For those of you who have had the opportunity to visit Spain, specifically the southern-most region of Andalucia during Spring months then you have heard of the Feria! During these Spanish fairs, women dress up in their most lavish Flamenco costumes and dresses and often men will wear their finest garb to add a special touch to the event. Though Albuquerque is far from Spain, a group called Casa Flamenca, Inc. will be setting up the scene for a Sevillan, Spanish-infused, authentic "Feria of Sevilla," comes complete with a Flamenco guitarist, singer and dancers. This event however, is not complete without audience participation. The audience in encouraged to dance Sevillanas and the Casa Flamenca will be hosting a Sevillana workshop the weeks leading up to the event. Casa Flamenca is an Albuquerque-based, fine arts organization with a mission of community building through Flamenco cultural events based in and around the city. Casa Flamenca holds weekly lessons in Flamenco dance and often hosts International Dance, Guitar, Percussion and Vocal workshops throughout the year. The group is consistent in promoting, producing and presenting artists of the highest caliber. "We are trying to build a community at Casa Flamenca where people enjoy themselves and feel like a part of our Flamenco art. It's not enough to have it, you must share it," says Valeria Montes, an instructor and organizer at Casa Flamenca. Due to the growing popularity coupled with the history of sell-out events-- this event should be well-received and the group strongly suggests an RSVP.
