They Are Headed Our Way

The 2013 Pro Rodeo Champions have been crown and now they are headed to Fort Worth. The best of the best were crown in Las Vegas at the annual National Final Rodeo. With that crowning comes the end of the 2013 season, but the 2014 season had already begun. And the Fort Worth stop begins January 17th with the PRCA Rodeo starting on the 24th.

Before they get here you want should know the National Final Rodeo winner s for 2013:

Bareback Bronc – Kaycee Field of Spanish Fork, Ut. with $239, 465.35 in earnings
Steer Wrestling – Hunter Cure of Holiday, Tx. with $173,354.97 in earnings
Team Roping (Headers) – Clay Tryan of Lipan, Tx. With $179,687.80 in earnings
Team Roping (Heelers) – Jade Corkill of Fallon, NV. With $178,056.66 in earnings
Saddle Bronc Riding – Chad Ferley of Oelrichs, SD with $204,432.24 in earnings
Tie-down Roping – Shane Hanchey of Sulphur, La. With $207,671.75 in earnings
Barrel Racing – Sherry Cervi of Marana, Az. With $147,417.71 in earnings
Steer Roping – Trevor Brazile of Decatur, Tx. with $84,220.86 in earnings
Bull Riding – J.W. Harris of Mullin, Tx. with $252,829.01 in earnings
All-Around - Trevor Brazile of Decatur, Tx. with $426,010.49 in earnings

Now to put all this into perceptive, the Bronc riders ride 8 seconds at a time; the Steer Wrestling winners threw a steer in 4 seconds or less each time as did the Team Ropers; the Team Ropers roped in less than 8 seconds each time to win and the barrel racers at the National Finals Rodeo ran their pattern in less than 14 seconds; and Bull riders, which originated here in Fort Worth, rode for 8 seconds each time on a bull weighing around 2000 pounds trying to get them off their back.

Now that seems like a lot of money for a little time performing. But put this into the equation, they pay their own expenses, an entrance fee at each rodeo to participate against hundreds of others, they have no insurance and no guarantees of any kind. If they win an event they are paid that day and it may be a long dry spell between pay checks.

But for you and I the best is headed our way and will be here next month. For more information see the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo’s web site at www.fwssr.com
