As the trajectory of college soccer continues to rise in America more and more players and parents are looking for an extra 'edge' in making the most of the talent they've got, and reaching towards getting that full scholarship. Out of this new soccer dynamic local soccer guy Dan Schoening and partners have formed www.TheStarting11.com as a business to address specific higher-level soccer training needs and goals for youth players.
Currently The Starting 11 is helping players in Washington (state) and Massachusetts.
"I grew up a Crossfire and FC Alliance player and I went to The Overlake School in Redmond," says Schoening of his local soccer pedigree. "I played for ex-Sounders player Ryan Edwards during my time at Crossfire. In 2003, when I was 15 years old, I co-founded a soccer camp program called DJ Kickers. We ran four sessions during the June and July for 4 consecutive summers, until I graduated from High School. We focused primarily on the 8-12 year-old age group."

It was then off the school for Schoening the soccer player and budding entrepeneur. "After I left for school, I continued to run personal training sessions and custom camps when I came home for the summers. This prompted our founding of The Starting 11. One of the most important aspects of my growth as a soccer player and a young athlete was my time spent with private trainers, who were more like mentors to me than anything else."
Schoenig says the one on one time was invaluable to him as a player. "I was fortunate enough to be able to work individually with coaches who I respected, and they truly cared about my progress. This played an important role in my soccer experience, and that is the base on which The Starting 11 was founded. We want to provide this opportunity (mentor-like relationships with experienced, dedicated coaches who truly care about a player’s progress) to any athletes who would be interested."
The Starting 11's mission statement from their website: We are soccer consultants and empowering is our game. Using years of coaching and playing experience, we provide clients the highest quality of soccer training. Whether through one our focused team camps or a personal training session, our adaptable curricula help players improve in all aspects of their game. We provide valuable direction applicable on and off the soccer field, fostering a positive attitude in athletics and in life.
