Well, metagame.it has come through: They have, indeed, previewed Purphoros, God of the Forge in Italian. Not much needs to be said by way of introduction of the already-beloved character; he's one of the five major gods of Theros, of course, and the most creative of them, bringing raw magical energy to life. Here's his text in English:
Purphoros, God of the Forge 3R
Legendary Enchantment Creature - God (Mythic)
As long as your devotion to red is less than five, Purphoros isn't a creature.
Whenever another creature enters the battlefield under your control, Purphoros deals 2 damage to each opponent.
2R: Creatures you control get +1/+0 until end of turn.
All of the gods synergize really well with the legendary enchantment artifacts associated with them, and Purphoros obviously wants a lot of creatures hitting the battlefield on your side. He is, of course, spectacular in EDH, and of course does insane things with a postcombat main phase use of Sudden Disappearance. Though he may seem completely Timmy-ish at first glance, what with his size, his mass pump ability, and his encouragement of the indiscriminate use of creatures, he's certainly got Johnny credibility as well. It's certainly disappointing that a character portrayed as a volatile artist rather than someone of pure anger gets such stereotypically-red abilities, but he's still a very fun and strong card, who'll find a home as a finisher in Constructed decks for sure.
What do you think of the red god? Let me know in the comments.
