Now that the Theros preview season has kicked off, it's time for us to pay attention to foreign-language Magic sites again! Yes, our friends across the globe are getting exclusive Theros previews, as is the usual case, and today, the Japanese site mtg-jp.com was tasked with previewing a red creature with bestow that grants a very typical red form of evasion. Take your first look at Purphoros's Emissary, which is in English text below:
Purphoros's Emissary 3R
Enchantment Creature - Ox (Uncommon)
Bestow 6R (If you cast this card for its bestow cost, it's an Aura spell with enchant creature. It becomes a creature again if it's not attached to a creature.)
Purphoros's Emissary can't be blocked except by two or more creatures.
Enchanted creature gets +3/+3 and can't be blocked except by two or more creatures.
As a creature, this guy is definitely a good beater in Limited. Double-blocking is never fun, especially in a combat-trick-filled environment such as Theros. At the end of the day, this is an evasive Hill Giant that gets even harder to deal with in multiples. Seven mana for that bestow cost for a measly +3/+3 boost may be expensive, but three power and evasion is enough to end games when they come down to the point where there's actually seven mana available. Also keep in mind that if an opponent double-blocks the bestowed creature to avoid taking the undoubtedly-massive damage to the face, there will be that many fewer creatures to block the Emissary once it returns as a creature after the bestowed guy is no longer around - and it might even be impossible to block. Certainly not exactly a Constructed powerhouse, but a good Limited player will be able to pull no end of tricky combats with this.
What do you think of this ferocious Ox enchantment creature? Let me know in the comments.
