This weekend Sept. 27-29 2013 during the "Theros" game day events "Magic: The Gathering" players can complete the second quest in the "Hero's Path" and earn a special hero card The Harvester. The Harvester is a powerful hero that can helps players dig quickly into their decks, transforming dead lands into business spells.
Tap: Draw a card, then discard a card.
One option for players seeking to take advantage of The Harvester is to play a combo deck. An example is gaining infinite life with Boros Reckoner, Angelic Skirmisher, and Boros Charm. It'll be hard for The Hydra to defeat you with 987 million life. You should have plenty of time to find a way to win, and the only viable option they'll have to defeat you is milling you instead of winning through combat damage.
Another idea to abuse The Harvester is to make a reanimation deck. Whereas some creatures that you'd normally want to only draw late game when you have enough mana to cast them, playing with The Harvester allows you to discard that Ashen Rider, Lord of the Void, or Angel of Serenity in your opening hand and replace it with an Obzedat's Aid, Rescue from the Underworld, or Whip of Erebos. If you're going to be discarding creatures Nighthowler makes a powerful addition, especially with a Deadbridge Chant or two in your deck.
How will you use The Harvester?
