Theresa Casanares: A transitioned Salon Business Owner

Theresa Casanares is a veteran in the hair care industry. She is currently pursuing the next chapter in her career. A journey to assist licensed professions develop skills in technology coarses and administration, to increase their worth.

Theresa, shares her transition, "Lately, I have been transitioning my career and everything is so fresh and so ever changing right now. For instance, I have been really battling the beginning stages of RA... (arthritis). At times it is so bad, I am unable to walk or stand after working. At times I am like this for days. This has caused me to make some serious changes in my career future. It has been very hard for me to stand on my feet full-time behind a chair so I have been forced to make some changes in order to preserve my health and take better care of myself. Unfortunately, this has been the case for a lot of people in our industry and it is why I have developed a passion for developing artist in areas other than using their hands. We are a very intelligent and able group of business leaders. Developing our skills in technology and administration only increases our worth."

Theresa tells us about her background, "My background is business, technology and teaching. I am really tying all these skills together with cosmetology which I also truly love. With that being said, add to that I am newly married to my ex-husband and that brings a whole other element of adjustment and change. It has been a slow process transitioning but, I find that if I don't compare myself to others, work diligently on what I am able to do and develop positive relationships with others who have the same goals eventually I will realize my dreams."

"Career wise I really see myself teaching business technology course for cosmetologist and the barber industry. Today I am teaching technology courses to large corporations and small businesses, however eventually I'd like to really have more of an impact on our community. I am doing this while maintaining my license and working behind the chair on limited schedule that doesn't aggravate my RA. I love being a stylist," Theresa shares.

Theresa states why she created her FB group..."I created Salon Business Owners because I wanted to create a place where anyone who owned a Salon business could come and share business information with other owners, a network. I also wanted to provide pertinent business information to our industry and be a place where people could go and get the latest news or event information around the world in one place. I am very careful about who joins as to control spam and nonsense. You must be in our industry to join this page or supply a service that is positive to business growth."

"I think what is most exciting about working for myself is deciding for myself, my self worth. I decide what I am worth and how much money I will make in my lifetime. No one can fire me or make that decision for me. I decide when to take a break and when to work. It isn't always easy but it is possible. I simply tell myself what is safe about working for a large corporation? You can be fired tomorrow for no apparent or good reason. Why subject myself to someone else's low expectations of me? After that is was apparent that I must be in total control of my destiny. Make that I and God, " shares Theresa.

Theresa shares her 2013 goals..."My goals for 2013 is to do everything within my power to support and develop the projects that I have already invested my time and money in. I will continue to educate myself. I will develop and grow my business in areas that need developing, and I will not compare myself to others. In the areas of business I would like to develop technology workshops for salon business owners to develop their business administration, marketing and technology skills. I would like to include in that plan time for relaxation, vacation and meditation. *smiles*"
