Each year hundreds of young breast cancer survivors, their caregivers, and their loved ones gather together in one location.
They gather to obtain the latest medical information, to listen to experts on their disease, to learn more about clinical trials, and to find comfort and support in those who are also affected with breast cancer.
This may sound like every other breast cancer conference you've heard about but it's not.
This group is different.
These women have all been affected by breast cancer before they married, before they had children, and some even before they finished school. They are young woman affected by breast cancer.
Each year over 500 woman gather in this one of a kind breast cancer conference dedicated exclusively to the unique needs of young women affected by breast cancer, as well as the needs of their families, friends, supporters and caregivers.
This years conference is being held in beautiful Bellvue, Washington. Bellvue is located just outside of Seattle and is Washington's fifth largest city.
According to the conference organizers "C4YW addresses the fact that when a young woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, she often feels isolated and alone. Her psychosocial and medical issues are fundamentally different than those of older, post-menopausal women, as is the impact of her diagnosis. C4YW acknowledges these issues by delivering educational sessions that provide attendees relevant information in easy to understand language".
The conference is scheduled for Friday February 22- Sunday February 24, 2013. The location for this one of kind conference is the Hyatt Regency in Bellvue on Seattle's Eastside.
There is still time to attend. Early registration runs through February 10, 2013.
Even better news is that the conference is still taking applications for travel grants.
Each year event sponsors distribute travel grants to attendees that otherwise would not be able to afford to attend such a valuable conference. These travel grants include stipends to offset travel as well as up to 50% to help cover the cost of lodging and a conference fee waiver.
This annual conference can make the difference in helping a young breast cancer survivor just beginning their cancer journey as well those who have been on their journey for awhile.
The conference lends hope to those at the beginning of their diagnosis, support to those who continue to fight, and celebrates those who are courageous long-term survivors.
More information and all applications and registration items can be found on the conference website. Conference agendas and speakers can also be found there.
If you are or care for someone under the age of 45 with breast cancer Seattle is the place to be this February.
