There's No Place Like The Home & Garden Expo

The I-X Center recently played host to the annual Great Big Home & Garden Expo presented by Time Warner Cable. This week-long expo showcased numerous exhibits to help homeowners and dreamers get information and ideas for both indoor and outdoor home needs.

The Expo featured celebrities from HGTV and more, including Matt Fox, Chip Wade and Christopher Straub of Project Runway fame. Visitors making their way up and down the aisles were able to meet with more than 600 exhibitors for everything from basement remodeling, home theaters and interior design to outdoor patios, gardening and landscaping. Dotted in the middle of it all were those vendors selling their wares from scarves and mops to fudge and sugar gliders (not kidding!).

In case visitors needed a break from walking and gawking, three stages provided ample seating to watch demonstrations. The Garden Stage showed various flora for the green thumbs. There was also a cooking stage to showcase kitchen needs. The main stage featured celebrities and more.

The Great Big Home & Garden Expo never disappoints with an Idea Home that everyone can walk through to get ideas for every room of the house. The Log Home walk-through also gave visitors an opportunity to see what a truly lumber home would be like. The Home Builders Association Pavilion showcased a 53 ft long interactive trailer. The HBA also teamed up with local vendors to create the Dream Home Theater. This theater gave a feel of what life would be like living like a celebrity with rows of reclining leather chairs and surround sound good enough to shake the room without being too over-powering. If you’ve ever wanted to be on an episode of Cribs, this Dream Home Theater is perfect.

My personal favorite from the Expo is always the landscaping. This year, the Garden Showcase played on the theme of 19 classic TV shows, including Home Improvement, Yogi Bear, The Flintstones, Sanford & Sons and The Beverly Hillbillies.

If you happened to miss the Expo this year, be sure to mark your calendars for 2013. For upcoming expositions at the I-X Center, visit www.ixcenter.com. And if you DID make it to the Home & Garden Expo this year, please comment below and let me know what your favorite feature was!
