The Kansas City Renaissance Festival is one of the best in the region. Running through Monday, October 14, there is still time to enjoy the Renaissance Festival for those who haven't been able to make it to the event yet. Along with the many features to enjoy, there are also plenty of ways to save.
Tickets to the Renaissance Festival are inexpensive at only $16.95 per adult and $9.95 for children between the ages of five and 12 if bought in advance. You will spend $3 more on each ticket if you purchase at the gate. Though it is too late to benefit from a season pass, guests can take advantage of free admission for young children and free parking. There are still some themed weekends left that allow certain guests to save. The weekends of October 5 & 6 and October 12 & 13 are Columbia days, in which Columbia residents can buy one ticket and get the second for free. Also on the weekend of October 5 & 6, individuals can sign up for the "Cupcake Battle," which includes one free tickets to the festival.
Of course, the admission price is not the only item that you pay for during the festival. The Marketplace is filled with food, from funnel cakes and fried ice cream to turkey drumsticks and lasagna. These items can get very costly. While outside food and drink is not allowed, guests can come and go as they please with a hand stamp. Guests who wish to save on festival food can place a cooler in their car, leave to enjoy lunch, and return for more festivities. Most games and rides cost extra as well. Those that are free are the Petting Zoo, Children's Realm, Secret Garden, Fairy Forest, and Mermaid Cove. Enjoy these along with stage acts, street acts, and musicians to save on the festival experience.
Lastly, there are a number of skilled artisans who share their wares. The best way to save on these souvenirs is to buy items that have longevity rather than those that will simply take up space only to be tossed aside later. Look for pottery, jewelry, stonework, and woodwork to make the most of the dollars spent.
The Kansas City Renaissance Festival is open from 10 AM to 7 PM Saturday through Monday. It is located in Bonner Springs off of exit 224.
