“I sing because I’m happy … I sing because I’m free …” So go the words from that marvelous gospel hymn, “His Eye is on the Sparrow.” Those words reverberated in the hearts and minds of many of those who attended Sunday morning worship recently at New Vision Christian Church where Associate Minister Elvis Hollie preached a sermon entitled, “There is A Story Behind my Praise,” lifted from 2 Chronicles 20.
Rev. Hollie declared that he can praise God because God loves him and has done so many marvelous things in his life. This statement should be the personal testimony of all Christians, he counseled. Unfortunately, “the reason so many churches are empty today is because too many ministers have watered down the power of God.”
As a result, people today are looking to government to take care of them rather than God. “I am looking to Calvary Hill and not Capitol Hill for my help and salvation!” declared Rev. Hollie to thunderous amens and hand clapping.
“From everlasting to everlasting, God remains the same,” he said. “There is a story behind my praise. That story is how God has taken care of me and delivered me through so many storms. And what God has done for me, He will do for you,” Rev. Hollie said and then concluded with, “God will do this because you are somebody. You are a child of God.”
