There are some fruits which are beneficial and good for your Pug.

Fruits are a good summer treat for your Pug.

Summer is still here but coming to a close. Just a reminder to keep your pugs hydrated and cool during these hot and humid days. Some ways to help keep them cool is to give them some fresh fruit or even freeze the fruit in an ice cube. Some fruits that are healthy and good to give your pugs, which are also beneficial for them, are:
- Apples which are rich in potassium. Eaten apples will help keep your pug’s teeth clean and breath smelling fresh.
- Bananas also rich in potassium and carbohydrates. Bananas help to rejuvenate cells when your pugs are active.
- Blueberries, black berries, raspberries, cranberries, and strawberries are also high in antioxidants, potassium, fiber, and omega 3 fats. Berries will help protect the cells that help break down food. It will help protect against cancer, heart disease, and such. Blueberries will also help to fight again cognitive health issues. Cranberries help to improve urinary tract health in your pug just as in humans.
- Pears, seedless watermelon, and cantaloupes are also good for pugs. They are high in Vitamin C and are water soluble for easy digestion. These fruits will help with digestion and general health benefits.
- Pumpkin is high in fiber, beta-carotene, zinc, and iron. Feeding a small spoonful of pumpkin daily will help maintain your pug’s colon which helps with excretion of their anal glands.
With all foods, fruits need to be given to your Pug in moderation. Fruits are not to replace a well-balanced dog food. They should be given with the food or as a treat. Remember to balance out the fruits given as well as remove all seeds. Seeds can be hazardous. Giving your pug too much of one fruit could be harmful and have reverse reactions. Also, in warm temperatures freezing or placing a piece of fruit in an ice cube will help keep your pug hydrated and entertained.
