Harley Davidson has been a prominent motorcycle manufacture since its founding in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1903. In fact Harley Davidson was one of two motorcycle manufactures based in America to survive the Great Depression; the other survivor was Indian, which is now owned by Polaris. In a nutshell the Harley Davidson brand is here to stay and is sure to produce quality motorcycles for years to come.
The Harley Davidson FL model was introduced in 1941 and is still in production today. For 1965, Harley launched the Electra Glide and at the time came equipped with rare electric start. Visually the iconic "batwing" fairing made a large impression, pun intended, on consumers.
Since 1965 the Electra Glide has had very little change in appearance, but it does have a completely different drive train.
- Torque: 70 ft-lb
- Displacement: 74ci (1,208cc)
- Transmission: four speed
- Weight: 783 pounds
- Torque:104.7 ft-lb
- Displacement: 103ci (1,690cc)
- Transmission: six speed cruise drive
- Weight: 896 pounds
The 2014 produces strong numbers in all categories, but also carries a sticker price starting at $23,000. Choosing between a classic or new Electra Glide is up to the consumer. Either is a fine choice.
