Theater Time

Long Islanders are lucky to have the access that we do to New York City and the wealth of restaurants, shows and culture that it makes available to us.  But most times, it's not easy (or inexpensive!) to haul our families, including kids, into the city to see a show, so why not see a fantastic show right here on Long Island?

The CM Performing Arts Center (931 Montauk Highway, Oakdale) is a non-profit organization located in what was formerly known as the Oakdale Theater, an old movie theater that had been vacant for 9 years when CM PAC took over.  Volunteers raised over $150,000 and recruited members to help with the actual renovations to change the movie theater into a live theater.  Over 100 volunteers spent hours, painting, sanding, recovering seats, hanging electrical wires and laying carpet, along with some help from a fantastic supporter, Fleet Bank.  The CM Performing Arts Center opened May 23, 1997.

Currently, the CM Performing Arts Center is running Beauty & The Beast on their main stage through November 29.  In this musical, a young woman in a small provincial town meets the Beast, in reality a young prince whose lack of compassion has trapped him into a spell placed by an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved in return, the spell will be broken and he will be transformed back to his former self. But time is running out, and if the Beast does not learn his lesson, he will be doomed for all eternity.
