Kansas City fans of the TV show, South Park, line up now for the Broadway musical from Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of South Park, because their irreverent Broadway Blockbuster, “Book of Mormon” headlines the new season from Broadway Across America for a two week run, Feb. 24-March 8 at Municipal Auditorium’s Music Hall, 2015.
Broadway Across America announced their upcoming season with certified Broadway hits on the agenda for Kansas City audiences. Besides “Book of Mormon,” scheduled productions include: “Motown, the Musical”, “Chicago,” “Peter and the Starcatcher,” “Mamma Mia!”, "Once," and “The Price Is Right-Live.”
Tickets are now on sale for the the season via the Theater League box office or website. According to a press release from Theater League, “Season tickets are on sale now starting at $175 for all five shows. Only Kansas City Broadway Series season members receive the best seats at locked-in prices before tickets go on sale to the public, as well as priority access to tickets, premium seating, payment plans, easy exchanges, advance ticket offers, lost ticket insurance, Swap-A-Show privileges and dining discounts. The upcoming Broadway shows split their locations between the Music Hall and the Muriel McBride Kauffman Theater inside the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. “Book of Mormon,” “Chicago,” “Once,” and “Motown, the Musical” come to the larger auditorium, The Music Hall. The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts hosts “Mamma Mia!”, “Peter and the Starcatcher”, and “The Price Is Right.”
The two most anticipated shows, “Book of Mormon” and "Motown the Musical" highlight the season. “Book of Mormon” won the 2011 Tony Awards® as Best Musical along with eight other Tony Awards® along with six Drama Desk Awards. “Motown” earned five Tony® nominations in 2013 but other shows blocked its success. “Once” won Best Musical for 2012 along with seven other Tony Awards®. The ever-popular “Chicago” claimed six Tonys® and boasts some London West End wins as well, evidenced by two Olivier Awards®. Not an underachiever, “Peter and the Starcatcher” claimed five Tony Awards® of 10 nominations. “Mamma Mia!” captured six Tony® nominations but failed to grab one award in 2002.
