'The Young and the Restless': Star set to return in September

While the 'Adam Newman' character's future isn't known to have been resolved yet, fans of 'The Young and the Restless' will see another favored star appear inside Genoa City in the near future. Eileen Davidson has been signed to reprise her role as 'Ashley Abbott' in early September and this time around she'll be a contract player.

Davidson was a regular on YR for long stretches of time dating back to the 1980s. In more recent GC history, she's appeared in a recurring role. Her other network (NBC) job is with 'Days of our Lives', as the quixotic 'Kristen DiMera'. Not surprisingly, Davidson may continue multitasking with Sony Pictures' blessing.

Sony runs both shows (YR and Days). Plus, exclusive contracts aren't nearly as in vogue in today's shrunken daytime world. Davidson's shuttling between two divergent roles showcases her acting range, while also offering fans added glimpses of their well-liked star.

While she didn't need to take on another persona, Davidson also played 'Ashley' on 'The Bold and the Beautiful' in 2007 and 2008. Seasoned soap viewers know that numerous actors have crossed over to BB (and vice versa) during YR's sister show's run.

It seems impossible to believe that Davidson turned 55 on June 15. Considering the visual scrutiny that HD screens now enable, any daily viewer knows that Davidson continues to defy deep age lines.

The 'Ashley' character is one of the few YR residents who's able to consistently evoke 'Victor Newman's' (Eric Braeden) softer side. Her presence in recent years hasn't threatened 'Niktor', which is a clever cheeky social media reference to 'Victor' and 'Nikki' (Melody Thomas Scott), for the few who didn't already know.

This time around, as suggested during 'Ashley's' recent visits, a connection with 'Ben Rayburn' (Sean Carrigan) could develop further. But, fans will have to wait until fall winds are about to blow before they learn more.
