'The Young and the Restless': Michael Muhney's return in the beholder's eye

Is there a clue within Muhney's website about his return?

Some fans of 'The Young and the Restless' want Michael Muhney to return to his beloved role as 'Adam Newman'. A visit to that terrific actor's website might reveal a clue about his return to CBS' iconic show.

Soap operas are loved by some and hated by others. But, all scripted entertainment is somewhat similar, regardless of what entertainment snobs say. Any other form of fictional television show, movie, play or non-reality based internet-only performance represents pure escapism.

The visceral reaction to Muhney's unexpected December departure reconfirmed the passion that daytime viewers, in particular, exhibit. Their loyalty to certain characters within certain shows allows this genre to remain unique in the world of make-believe.

So, what about the clue that was teased earlier?

The lead sentence on Muhney's official website appears to clarify his most current rule. It says, “Michael has been playing the role of Adam Newman, also known as Victor Newman, Jr. on the CBS Emmy-winning daytime drama, 'The Young and the Restless' since June 2009.” It doesn't read, “has played”.

Just when everyone thought that tense usage was only relevant in school, that specific phrase could be interpreted as cryptic evidence that Muhney is on hiatus, instead of a permanent exile. It could also represent some type of agreement by the actor to not update that show-specific information until the current 'Adam' plot point has been resolved.

All viewers blended their opinions with selected facts and rumors regarding Muhney's current removal from YR's active cast. Some reacted by subsequently boycotting the show, which is obviously their right.

If everything that Muhney loyalists believe is true, then their actions were and are logically justified. Reading between the lines, in whatever direction, is everyone's choice.
