The Young and the Restless” fans have had a busy week. First it was announced that Gina Tognoni would step into the role of Phyllis Newman. The recast wasn't a shock to fans because Michelle Stafford had signed on to play Nina Clay on “General Hospital.” Now there is more casting news that has fans up in arms. According to a May 23 report from Daytime Confidential, David Tom has left the role of Billy Abbott and will be replaced with Burgess Jenkins. This news has some fans absolutely speechless.

Billy Miller had played Billy Abbott from 2008 to 2013. David Tom held the role earlier on from 1999 to 2002, and was welcomed back earlier this year when Miller exited the role. Since Tom stepped in there have been several fans complaints about his actions in the role. Miller was a fan-favorite and there was a lot of drama when he exited “The Young and the Restless” as Billy Abbott.

Burgess Jenkins confirmed the news that he would indeed be taking the role as Billy Abbott via his personal Twitter account today. He thanked "The Young and the Restless" fans for the outpouring of love. While there are definitely some viewers who are excited to see Jenkins step into the role, there are also some who wish David Tom would have stayed. Jenkins is rumored to be stepping into the role sometime nearing the end of June.

“The Young and the Restless” has had several upsets with casting over the last year. Michelle Stafford and Billy Miller were huge losses. While Stafford went to “General Hospital,” no one can say for sure where Miller will end up. Fans are willing to give Burgess Jenkins the chance to prove himself as Billy Abbott, but no one will ever be able to replace Miller in the role.
