Yoga studios have sprung up in every neighborhood in the Twin Cities. Since convenience is often the best predictor of adherence to any fitness program, the best way to find a class to meet your needs might be to head out the front door and see what your neck of the woods has to offer. The studios I mention here are in my neck of the woods and include spots where I have had personal experience. Feel free to add your own suggestions to help other readers find a class that fits their interests.
My favorite class of the moment is Fitness Yoga at the Downtown YMCA with Danielle. Danielle does a great job of combining poses from a variety of practices to accommodate the wide range of students who take her class. Not a member of the Y? She also teaches at Ivy Spa Club and at Corepower Yoga on Washington Avenue where new members are invited to join classes free for a week. Corepower also has locations throughout the metro area. Always a glutton for punishment, I also enjoy classes at Bikram Yoga College of India on Lyndale Avenue in Uptown, where the studio is usually packed with sweaty enthusiasts on Saturday mornings.
For those of you who are looking for a class that focuses on breathe work, mantra and mediation, Praxis Healing Arts offers Kundalini and Hatha classes at their two locations in Tangletown and at The Carlyle in the heart of the city. Yoga Center of Minneapolis also has two locations in downtown Minneapolis and St Louis Park. The studios offer a wide range of classes including one which specializes in yoga for exercisers with back issues.
Be sure to check last week's blog, Defining the different types of yoga for suggestions posted by readers who practice yoga in other parts of the city, including Eagan and Bloomington. Or check out the Minneapolis Yoga Examiner for helpful advice on yoga classes and information.
