Steampunk lovers have a lot to look forward to in 2012. This article takes a look at some of the conventions coming up where steampunk and other science fiction and fantasy fans can meet celebvrities, attend workshops, and show off their finest costumes.
The primary steampunk convention in Atlanta is AnachroCon, taking place February 24-26 at the Holiday Inn Select , 4386 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd. AnachroCon is for lovers of steampunk, history, alternate history, VIcctoriana and time travel. It’s a lot of fun, and registration is open now!
TimeGate, May 26,-27 also at the Holiday Inn Select, is centered on Stargate and Dr. Who but also has lots of literary and other sci-fi programming. There ihas been quite a lot of steampunk in this latest Doctor, so there’s plenty of inspiration for steampunk costuming and lots of good fun.
For a bit of a road trip, Atlanta steampunk fans can travel to Columbus, GA for Imagicon, moving from Birmingham to the Convention and Trade Center in Columbus for the first time this year. Imagicon is a full-scale science fiction and fantasy convention with celebrity guests, literary guests, costume contests, music and more.
Of course, DragonCon is a big event for steampunk lovers as well as for every other kind of sci-fi and fantasy lover in Atlanta and all over the world. It takes place this year on August 31-September 2.
Note: If you want to attend, but you’re broke, and you want to really get up close and personal with the guests and activites of any of these conventions, they are always looking for volunteers for staff! I’ve been volunteering at DragonCon for 17 years this year! Check the websites to find out how to volunteer.
