"The X Factor" USA 2013 continued Dec. 4 on FOX with two performances by each of the remaining six acts. After enduring plenty of harsh criticism over the course of the competition from some of the mentors, the guys of Restless Road finally scored a standing ovation for their heartfelt unplugged version of Avicii's "Wake Me Up."
The show-created country trio, comprised of teens Andrew Scholz, Zach Beeken and Colton Pack, sat alone on the dimly-lit stage to deliver their second song of the evening. Although they'd previously faced criticism from mentors Kelly Rowland, Demi Lovato and Paulina Rubio for less than stellar harmonies and lackluster vocals by Beeken and Scholz, the song selection suited them very well, and they all rose to the occasion. It wasn't completely pitch-perfect, but it was lovely.
Rowland congratulated them on a great performance praised the trio for their vulnerability. Lovato told the misty eyed guys to stop crying because they were making her cry, and opined that the effort should earn them a spot in the finals. Rubio told them to soak in the good vibes with "you guys need to cry because this is real and this is happening." Finally, the trio's proud mentor, groups head honcho Simon Cowell, said he loved their honesty, their vocals and the song selection. He said he'd question America's judgment if they failed to make the semifinals.
A visibly emotional Pack marveled over how far they'd come as a group, and promised to keep moving forward in honor of their respective hometown supporters.
