'The X Factor' US 2013: The 'four chair challenge' reveals the top 16 this week

"The X Factor" introduces the controversial "Four Chair Challenge" on Oct. 2, 2013. The top 40 will be drastically cut down to a top 16 this week on "The X Factor." Part one of the "Four Chair Challenge" airs tonight with 20 of the 40 singers performing to take eight chairs. Part two airs tomorrow where the remaining 20 perform for the last eight chairs.

The new twist is very dramatic and sometimes considered cruel because the judges can replace a contestant with another one. The four spots per category are not final decisions until all 10 singers perform. As a result of this twist the contestants do a lot of begging to go through.

Tonight Kelly Rowland and Demi Lovato picked their top four. Kelly Rowland chose James Kinney, Jeffrey Adam Gutt, Lillie McCloud and Rachel Potter. Demi Lovato chose Danie Geimer, Ellona Santiago, Khaya Cohen and Rion Thompson

The "Four Chair Challenge" will last for two episodes before "The X Factor" goes on a week-long hiatus. The top 16 contestants go on to the live episodes which are voted on by the public. Locally you can view "The X Factor" every Wednesday and Thursday on FOX channel WAWS 30 in Jacksonville.
