"The X Factor" U.K. auditions episode that ITV televised on Sept. 22, 2013, revealed more contestants who were selected for the "boot camp" stage of the competition.
Among those making the cut were the groups Dynamix, Code 4, Tenors of Rock, Xyra and Brick City. Also chosen for boot camp were solo singers Joseph Whelan, Crissie Rose, Sam Callahan, Giles Potter, Paul Akistar, Hannah Sheares, Zoe Devlin and Ryan Mathie. Almost all of these contestants got unanimous "yes" votes from the judges.
Here are the show's contestant categories in 2013, followed by the "X Factor" U.K. judge who is each category's mentor this year:
- Girls (female solo singers ages 16 to 24), mentored by Nicole Scherzinger
- Boys (male solo singers ages 16 to 24), mentored by Louis Walsh
- Overs (solo singers ages 25 and over), mentored by Sharon Osbourne
- Groups, mentored by Gary Barlow
Speaking of Dynamix (which performed the Black Eyed Peas' "Let's Get It Started"), there was some drama when lead singer SeSe was singled out by the judges as the star of the trio and it was suggested that she go solo.
Barlow said, "Let me be really honest with you right now, you are not going to make the final twelve in the groups, there are better groups than you in the competition."
Scherzinger commented, "SeSe is the star of this; she is the only one I saw in that performance."
Osbourne added: "It's the chemistry, I think that it's lacking chemistry between the three of you."
SeSe broke down in tears as she replied, "I want this so much, to change my life personally and for my daughter, but I think I'm going to say no."
In the end, the judges decided to put the whole group through to boot camp. But since the judges have already expressed their reservations about Dynamix, it's highly unlikely that the group is going to be chosen for the Top 12 that will perform in the live episodes this year.
Someone who did take the judges' advice to ditch the rest of her group and go solo is Hannah Sheares. She was seen in the previous episode making that emotional decision after her trio the Daisy Chains got mixed reactions from the judges. After the Daisy Chains performed the Supremes' "Stop! In the Name of Love," the judges said that Sheares was the best performer of the trio and that she should go solo.
Sheares did her first "X Factor" audition as a solo singer by performing Demi Lovato's "Skyscraper." Although she was visibly nervous, she performed well enough for the judges, who all voted to put her through to boot camp.
