"The X Factor" U.K. auditions episode that ITV televised on Sept. 15, 2013, featured several contestants who were chosen to advance to the next round: boot camp.
The judges (Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh) were all in agreement about saying yes to Lydia Lucy, Next of Kin, Rough Copy, Nicholas McDonald, Jeanette Akua and Kingsland.
However, Barlow (who is generally the hardest judge to please on the panel) still wasn't impressed with reggae singer Souli Roots, but she received yes votes from the other three judges to put her through to boot camp.
Stephanie Woods might have been eliminated after she performed Cyndi Lauper's "I Drove All Night." The judges thought the song was too old-fashioned and outdated for her. However, Woods was given another chance to do another song, so she chose Eva Cassidy's "Songbird," which was much better-received by the judges, who all said "yes" to Woods going on to boot camp. Barlow's yes vote was a reluctant one, as he grumbled that Woods needs to work on choosing better songs.
Sadly, it was the end of "The X Factor" road this year for James McDonald (no relation to Nicholas McDonald), who bombed with Daniel Merriweather's "Red." It seems his nerves negatively affected his performance, which wasn't nearly as good as his performance of Stevie Wonder's "Lately" in the previous episode.
