Rough Copy was in the bottom two with rock singer Luke Friend, based on viewer votes for the previous episode. It was the third time in the bottom two for Foster and Friend.
After "The X Factor" U.K. host Dermot O'Leary announced that Rough Copy and Friend were in the bottom two, Rough Copy and Friend then did a sing-off for the "X Factor" U.K. judges Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh.
Rough Copy performed Boyz II Men's "End of the Road," while Friend performed Keane's "Somewhere Only We Know."
Barlow (who was Rough Copy's "X Factor" mentor) voted to eliminate Friend, and Walsh (Friend's "X Factor" mentor) voted to eliminate Rough Copy. That left Osbourne and Scherzinger to cast the deciding votes. Scherzinger voted to eliminate Friend, while Osbourne voted to eliminate Rough Copy.
With the judges' votes in a deadlock, the contestant eliminated had to be the one who got the lowest number of votes from the public. And that contestant was Rough Copy.
Rough Copy's elimination meant that Barlow (who was mentoring the Groups category) no longer has any acts in the competition this year. Barlow has been a judge on "The X Factor" U.K. since 2011, and 2013 is the first year that he won't have a contestant in the show's finals. It's got to be a massive disappointment for Rough Copy and Barlow, since he has announced that 2013 is his last year with the show.
In their farewell statement on stage, Rough Copy's Joey James commented: "“Just being here just being here was a highlight. I thank Gary for everything he has done for us, I thank the whole 'X Factor' team for everything. I thank all our friends and family for always being here the whole time. If you believe in God, make some noise!”
Rough Copy's Kazeem Ajobe added, “I am crying because this has been the longest journey ever, and we did it, we made it. After what happened last year, this year has been crazy. Thank God we met Gary. Thank the whole team, everyone at 'The X Factor.' The public and God has said it’s our time to go this week. Hopefully we can have a 25-, 30-year-old career.”
"Thank you so much for believing in us, for us to be even given a chance on a platform like this, such a big commercial platform and to be loved every week and to get this far, a week before the finals. We were begging to get to judges houses' last year and we made the semi-final. We are happy man, it would have been great to get to the final and make it all the way but only one week away. We are happy to have had 10 weeks on the show. We proved ourselves. We proved what we are worth.”
Meanwhile in this episode, the guest performers were "The X Factor" U.K. 2006 winner Leona Lewis (who performed "One More Sleep") and Michael Bublé, who sang "You Make Me Feel So Young."
At the beginning of the episode, the show's Top 4 contestant acts performed Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours."
Here are the remaining Top 3 "X Factor" U.K. contestant acts of 2013:
