Tonight, Dec. 19, the top 13 acts returned for The X Factor finale. They kicked the show off with a performance of U2’s “One.” Mario turned to Simon, who revealed he was very, very nervous.
The finale featured plenty of Christmas performances from the finalists and celebrities. Carlito Olivero performed “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).” Mary J. Blige performed a medley of Christmas songs. Jeff Gutt sang “O Holy Night,” and Alex and Sierra sang “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
Lea Michele performed her new single, “Cannonball,” off her upcoming album, “Louder,” which is set for release next March.
The finalists and their mentors gathered on stage, and Mario revealed that Carlito Olivero had finished in third place and was eliminated from the competition. Carlito said he was blessed and worked hard to get there – he couldn’t be mad for getting third place.
Leona Lewis returned to the stage and performed “One More Sleep,” off her Christmas album, “Christmas, With Love.” She chatted briefly with Mario and said at this point when she was in the competition, she was so nervous and didn’t think she would win it.
Pitbull performed “It’s Going Down.”
Alex and Sierra and Jeff Gutt sang “Love Me Again.”
Another former winner, One Direction, stopped by and performed “Midnight Memories.”
Then, it was finally time to announce the Season 3 winner. The top two finalists and their mentors returned to the stage, and Mario announced that Alex and Sierra had won! Simon said he felt like Christmas came early, told Jeff he had respect for him, and thanked America. Alex and Sierra were speechless, but they thanked everyone who voted. Mario hopped over by Jeff, and he said he owed America everything and wasn’t going to give up. He also congratulated Alex and Sierra. The duo performed “Say Something” once more, and the two could barely make it through the song without crying.
Simon Cowell thanked everyone on the show and said the judges had done a phenomenal job, and he was clearly quite pleased to see one of his groups finally win in the United States.
Congratulations to Alex and Sierra!
What did you think of tonight’s finale? Were you happy to see Alex and Sierra win?
