'The X Factor,' One Direction and Demi Lovato win 2013 People's Choice Awards

"The X Factor" U.S. and "X Factor" stars One Direction and Demi Lovato won prizes for the 2013 People's Choice Awards (held January 9 at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles), but these victories were not announced in the TV broadcast of the show. That's because the show (which CBS telecast in the U.S.) only featured winners who were actually there to pick up their awards. "The X Factor" nominees were not at the awards show, as previously reported.

One Direction (which came in third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010) could not attend because the group is in London rehearsing for its world tour. No explanation was give for why Lovato did not attend. On January 8, 2013, she was seen at a Los Angeles recording studio, so it's very likely that she didn't attend the awards show because she was busy working on her next album. On January 3, 2013, Lovato said she was taking a break from Twitter because she said she was annoyed with gossip websites.

Voting for the 2013 People's Choice Awards was done online by the public at the People's Choice Awards website.

"The X Factor" U.S. won the prize for Favorite Competition TV Show. The other nominees in the category were "America's Got Talent," "American Idol," "Dancing With the Stars" and "The Voice."

Lovato won the award for Favorite Celebrity Judge. The other nominees in the category were Christina Aguilera of "The Voice," Adam Levine of "The Voice," Jennifer Lopez of "American Idol" and Britney Spears of "The X Factor." Lovato was nominated for two other 2013 People's Choice Awards (Favorite Pop Artist and Favorite Music Fan Following), but she lost to Katy Perry in those categories.

One Direction won two of the four awards for which the group was nominated. One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful" was named Favorite Song, while One Direction's first album, "Up All Night," won for Favorite Album. One Direction was also nominated for Favorite Breakout Artist but lost to The Wanted. As previously mentioned, Perry won the prize for Favorite Fan Following, which was the other category where One Direction received a nomination but did not win.

Even though Lovato won the award for Favorite Celebrity Judge, it's been rumored that she will be fired from "The X Factor." (Lovato, her representatives and "X Factor" spokespeople aren't commenting.) It's unknown how much, if any, influence winning the award will have in whether or not she will gets to keep her "X Factor" job. It should be announced in late January 2013 or early February 2013 who's getting fired from the show. Britney Spears (judge) and Khloe Kardashian (co-host) are the most likely to be fired, according to several sources.

For now, "The X Factor" executive producer Simon Cowell is the only judge guaranteed to remain on the show in 2013. Antonio "L.A." Reid quit in December 2012 because he said he wanted to spend more time on his main job as chairman/CEO of Epic Records. The "X Factor" replacement for Reid should be announced by May 2013.
